Bulletin Board Policy

The purpose of the Lake Mills Public Library’s bulletin board policy is to call attention to local activities, events, and official notices, and make space freely available to display information about events sponsored by educational, cultural, and non-profit groups. The library will not accept lost-and-found notices, notices for personal advertising, or notices for personal services.

Information to be posted must be suitable for general public viewing by all age groups.  The library reserves the right to refuse notices if the content is lacking in interest or informative value or otherwise fails to meet the guidelines set forth in this policy. Posting items does not imply library endorsement of content, nor will the library accept responsibility for the accuracy of statements made in such materials.

Items for the bulletin board should be submitted to the library staff for approval.  Items will be added and withdrawn as space allows, with consideration given to the timing of events and the length of time that items have been displayed.

Guidelines:

  • Content of posters must meet existing laws regarding obscenity, libel, defamation of character, and invasion of privacy.
  • All notices posted in the library become property of the library and may be removed and discarded at any time.
  • Posters announcing a series of events or ongoing meetings will be posted as space allows. These items will not be posted for more than thirty days.
  • Priority is given to events held in Lake Mills and/or sponsored by city departments. Events held in surrounding communities are also accepted and will be posted as space allows.
  • Name and contact information for the group sponsoring or benefiting from the event, and the date and location of the event, must be included on the flyer.
