Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Policy

Due to limited budget and shelving space, the Lake Mills Public Library does not own all materials that are requested by our patrons. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is used to obtain those materials from other libraries that are beyond the scope of our collection.

  1. A patron must be a resident of Lake Mills, rural Winnebago County, or a contracting city to be eligible for ILL service. (Open Access patrons from towns with libraries are encouraged to use their home library for interlibrary loans.)
  2. The Lake Mills Public Library does not charge patrons to use the ILL service. If the loaning library charges the Lake Mills Public Library to send out the material, that charge will be passed on to the patron. The patron will be notified of the charge before the material is borrowed.
  3. The patron is responsible for all fees that are charged by the lending library due to damage or loss. Unpaid fines and fees will go on a patron’s library record and, if not resolved, will result in the loss of borrowing privileges.
  4. Interlibrary loan materials are circulated according to the loan parameters of the lending library. The Lake Mills Public Library may receive permission from the loaning library to extend the due date. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the ILL Clerk.

5.      Interlibrary loan privileges may be suspended if:

  • a patron habitually requests titles and does not pick them up
  • materials are misused
  • materials are returned late, or
  • the patron’s account is not in good standing.
